Returning “Green”
21 Feb
Having been in high school in the late 70’s, I along with my sister, was an official card carrying tree hugger, charter member of the Environmental club and die hard John Denver fan! Over the years since then, being an environmentally friendly person has come and gone in my life. It is something I am always aware of but depending upon the time in my life, there may have been more than a few other things piled on top of that awareness!
Some of my earth friendly high points: My husband and I spent a couple of years living aboard a sailboat which we outfitted with wind and solar power. Sailing from Texas to Florida and down through the Bahamas, we were always the go to boat in the anchorage because we did not have to run an engine or generator to have lights in the evening. After leaving the boat, we built a home from SIP panels, installed a gray water system to water the garden and a rain water collection system. This home was in deep South Texas where conservation of water was and still is a must!
We currently live “in the city” in a beautiful home and I find myself asking what am I doing NOW to help the environment. Well….. We have started recycling some of our glass, paper and plastics! It’s the beginning of a new tree hugger phase for me. We will all be looking for new ways to go green in the coming weeks, months and years. Getting back to our ” green roots” the only way to go!
