McKinney Recycling Center Opens in Texas

A brand new recycling center has just opened in McKinney, Texas and it promises to revolutionize recycling in the local area. The IESI McKinney recycling facility is called a Material Recovery Facility and is situated in McKinney near the Collin Airport. The Mckinney recycling facility will be the first privately funded single-stream LEED certified Material Recycling Facility in North America.

The McKinney recycling center building is fully LEED certified which means the building itself was built to the strictest eco friendly standards;
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green commercial structures.
The new recycling center also houses a second-floor community room and observation deck overlooking the recycling operations area.

They will be recycling;

  • Glass
  • Plastic
  • Paper
  • Aluminum
  • Tin
  • Cardboard

The facility incorporates sustainable features such as certified wood, building materials containing recycled content, low-emitting materials, water-conserving fixtures and features to reduce the heat-island effect.

The 28,000 square foot facility will annually process more than 144 million pounds of recyclable materials!

    Please update or correct the article to identify the new facility owner and operator as IESI, not Waste Watchers.

    Waste Watchers has no affiliation with this project. I’m not sure I even know who Watchers is. IESI has developed this project as part of our partnership with the City of McKinney, Texas. This project was paid for 100% by IESI and is the first of its kind in North America. We appreciate your coverage of this very exciting grand opening but want to make sure that the public receives an accurate reporting of the ownership status of this one of a kind recycling facility.
