Counter Top Kitchen Composting

21 Dec

Do you own an outdoor composter or have a compost heap in the yard? If you do then you will know that collecting compostable fruit and vegetable waste can be a difficult routine to maintain. You need to collect the scraps of compostable food and take them out to the compost heap after every meal is prepared. I often find myself asking;

I wished there was a way to store compostable fruit and vegetables in the kitchen until I was ready to take all the scraps out to the main compost heap!

I was given this perfect solution by my Mother and Father in law for my birthday and it makes the routine of collecting compostable food waste so easy… It is a counter top kitchen compost bin with a built in odor filter and it works great.

Stahlbush Island Farm Vegetables

20 Jul

packageWhile out grocery shopping this past weekend, I came across a great product. I bought a bag of Stahlbush Island Farms diced butternut squash. The brown paper packaging caught my eye with 100% Natural, Certified Sustainable Farming, Grown in the USA across the top. That was enough to make me buy and try the product. I have to say, it was wonderful. It tasted as good as fresh, excellent flavor.

Stahlbush Island Farms is a Real Family Farm.  they were founded by Bill and Karla Chambers in Oregon’s Willamette Valley in 1985, planting and harvesting just 2 crops. In 1998, Stahlbush Island Farms launched the sustainably grown frozen fruits and vegetables in the distinctive brown paper package that I purchased and in 2003, they begin selling a brand of organic pumpkin products called Farmer’s Market.

Reach for Green..Green Works!

12 Jul

As we strive to live a more balanced, natural lifestyle and still keep a clean and healthy home, I started using Green Works cleaners from Clorox last week. I did not want any harsh chemical fumes or residues but I did want something that would clean. I bought the Natural glass and surface cleaner. In the past, most green cleaners either weren’t very green or weren’t very effective cleaners, or both. Green Works is a plant-based  line of products. The products are 99 percent natural, sustainable, made from biodegradable ingredients and not tested on animals. I think this glass cleaner works as well as or better than conventional cleaners. I was impressed!

Evolve Ziploc sandwich bags

Evolve Ziploc sandwich bags

I don’t know about everybody else, but we use a lot of sandwich bags, plastic storage bags, etc. I know some people wash those out and use them two, three or four times. Sorry - that’s not me, however we ran across these New Ziploc evolve bags, that are better for the environment. They are Ultra Light Bags, use 25% less plastic, and are made with wind energy! The carton they come in, is made of 100% recycled paperboard. They use less energy to produce them, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Granted we would be better off not using plastic storage bags at all, but in our house, that’s probably just not going to happen. So at least using this product I feel like we are doing a little bit more to reduce our carbon footprint and create a more beautiful earthprint, one tiny step at a time.
