Once you start there’s no stopping you

Once you start getting your mind wrapped around recycling, there’s no stopping you. You start looking at things completely different. For example: We were going to Target to look for things that are really & truly recycled. After that we were going to order some dinner from Johnny Carino’s and take it home. But, then we thought, it would be wrapped in aluminum foil and cardboard and in a paper bag and we would have to recycle that. So we decided to stay there and eat. No big deal, we had time. It’s not much impact in the big picture, but an impact none the less. Little things like that mean a great deal.

Another thing we had gotten lazy about is: We eat off of paper plates 90% of the time. We use to cook on non-stick aluminum foil so we wouldn’t have to wash the cookware or dishes. Well, all that ends up in the system for recycling at our house, and energy is generated at the recycling plant to recycle that mess. So while Sharen and I were at Target, we were looking for environmentally friendly cookware that doesn’t use teflon, (because  it sometimes flakes off and is bad for you) and decided to start using cookware and washing dishes instead of building up our recycling bin. By the way, we didn’t find any environmentally friendly cookie sheets or anything like that at Target. They did have frying pans though.
