Simplify Life

Henry David Thoreau is quoted as saying “As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.”  I have been moving in the direction of simplifying my life over the past months. As I read these words over and over, they really ring true to my experiences thus far. The universe does seem simpler when you are not worrying about how to maintain all the extra “things” in your life or working to acquire more things. Less is simpler. Solitude, for me, is doing some soul searching, it has awakened a quieter, more peaceful person in me. I love walking outside, it has become like a great movie, seeing nature all around, seeing the world around me and not just whats ahead. I can not tell you that I have taken to living in poverty to make my life simpler, I have however found that I have enough. I don’t need more. There is a wonderful sense of accomplishment for me knowing that I have the time to do things like painting, reading or walking, I used to spend alot of time buying. I really don’t need anything. Going to get groceries is now a trip to gather food, not a purchasing opportunity for new things, something to sit here, wear there! Believe it  or not, it is not a sign of weakness if you don’t have the newest, biggest, best of something! I really like taking a simpler perspective on life. It makes me happier. Things don’t rule my thinking as much anymore, its more about enjoying life and my family. Simplifying my life is a journey that makes me happykaren.
