Small Eco Artwork with a Big Impact

My sister, Rachel, lives and works in Manchester in the UK and on a recent visit to sunny Texas she brought with her some belated birthday presents for me. Rachel has her own hand made pottery business and she enjoys bringing home work from other artists whenever she frequents the local arts and crafts shows.

On this particular visit Rachel brought us a wonderful little creation by a sculptor from London in the UK. His name is Jeff Soan and he runs a small sculpture company called Wobbly Wood!

Jeff’s creations may be small but they have a big impact both visually and in saving the planet. He uses only all natural products and definitely embraces an eco-friendly business ethos.

We absolutely love the little creation that was given to us and it takes pride of place on our living room table along with many other creations that Rachel has brought over from the UK. As you can see, the wobbly wood fish is only palm sized but it often sparks interest from visitors to our home.
A word about the creator;
Jeff Soan set up his garden workshop in 1987, making toys which were sold at the local craft market in Greenwich, UK. After a year of selling many new designs he eventually returned to the articulating creatures that had so fascinated him. A batch of wobbly fish being snapped up by eager customers caught the eye of a passing TV producer and he was invited to take part in a BBC programme called ‘Handmade’. Sales really took off and he started developing many different creatures incorporating the technique.
Be sure to visit Jeff’s website and check out his other creations as well as videos on how he handcrafts the wonderful, but often tiny, wooden sculptures.
